obessive behavior

So I have a bit of an obession with my weight and how my body looks. I’m so obessesed I sometimes allow these things to affect my mood and behavior for the day.

Today at work I was showing some people a picture (from about a year ago) of when i had longer hair. Everybody says it looks nothing like me. There are many factors that may go into this.

My hair is shorter.

My hair is lighter now.

I was wearing a baseball hat in the picture.

All these are possible. All I could focus on is that my face may (or may not, but I’m convinced it does) look a little heavier. From a year ago when that picture was taken I’ve probably only gained 5-7 pounds, I had already gained a little weight when the picture was taken.

I wish i wasn’t so obessesive and I also wish i could lose some weight so I feel like I am making progress and have a bit more motivation.

I am going to start counting calories to see if I can jumpstart some weight loss. My only worry with counting calories is, it isn’t something I can keep up for the rest of my life and I don’t want to put the weight back on once I stop counting.

Any opinions on this? Also any good ideas for workout motivation? I have some trouble with that. Hope everyone is having a good day and are feeling good about themselves!

    A few things…
1- I can relate to you in almost every way. It is so hard to count calories and motivate to exercise, but I’m going to tell you what works for me:
Using the food journal to keep track of your food will eventually make you comfortable with portion control. When you stop counting calories, you should more or less have an idea of what you should and should not be eating on a given day in the context of what you have already/want to be eating for the rest of the day. Secondly, remind yourself that any exercise is good. I used to dread it because I didn’t want to go to the gym for 2 hours or work myself to death. That’s not necessary. Any activity is good for you and is a start to build up to do more. Anything is better than sitting on the couch.
2- Look into physical activities that are fun. I love to dance, so dance classes are good for me (and there are so many- dance aerobics, belly dancing, etc). I will never understand people who like butt and gut and those types of classes- they seem like torture to me- but to each his own. Throwing around a ball, playing basketball, tennis, etc. are also fun because they are social so you don’t feel like you are exercising. Social activities are fun in two-fold, they are social so you do not realize you are exercising and it helps to have someone else motivating you to keep going.
3- Try not to beat yourself up when you have a bad day. It makes you dread going back into the routine because then you punish yourself if you don’t keep to it. You are human, you will have a bad day or two… chalk it up to that and on to the next day
I hope I helped, this is just what works for and motivates me :) Good luck!
